Waste management In coking plant Thresholds and barriers of waste recovery in coking plant technological process

The article presents current condition of waste management in coking plants. It also discusses sources, amounts and composition of non-products generated in the technological process in coking plants. The paper presents internal recycling methods of non-products into feedstock coal and carbon derivatives. Moreover, the degree of fulfilling legal environmental requirements related to waste management in coking plants is assessed. The article presents thresholds and barriers of “external” waste recovery in coking plant production process.

The article presents collected information on legal regulations related to waste management in force in Poland. It also describes changes in waste management introduced by the new Act on waste. Analysis of problems related to waste production was carried out, mainly for management of wastes of code 0105. Preliminary studies at laboratory scale were carried out to allow assessment of possibility of utilization and manners of use of waste drilling muds.

Research on the physical modification of PMMA-PO waste

A physical modification of after-utility PMMA/ PO waste mixes has been carried out. In order to obtain a usable material with good physical-mechanical properties, optimally selected compatibilizers have been added to the mix of after-utility PMMA/PO polymer waste. Next, examinations were performed of the physical and mechanical properties of the obtained waste polymer mixes in ternary systems of poly(methyl methacrylate)/polyolefin/compatibilizer. More detailed description is given to methods producing from waste fuels and energy. In Polish circumstances there will be dominance of waste burning or recycling their thermal energy. It is possible to deploy more profitable methods with production of both energy, fuels and chemical stock. This need chemists to enter complex system of local authorities, companies serving to them, landfills and incinerators.
